This post is quite late (hello Summer!!) but I wanted to tell you about the Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest since we had the BEST time with so many best friends visiting!
The Frühlingsfest, or Spring Festival in English, runs for 3 straight weeks, mid April to mid May every year and it’s the sister event to the Volksfest in the fall. We were so lucky to have a ton of friends visit us from the states this year, all during the fest season so we spent many weekends soaking up the German festival and sharing it with them!
If you haven’t been to the Fruehlingsfest or Volksfest yet, here’s what to expect: a festival similar to an American state fair, but larger with much more intense rides, and of course beer tents. Almost everyone will be wearing lederhosen for the guys and dirndls for the girls.
The beer tents hold multi-thousands of happy fest goers, there’s always a band playing fun fest music songs like 99 Luftballons, Sweet Caroline, and more. They serve beer, and lots of it. Every day. 🙂 After you eat your 1/2 chicken plate, you stand on the benches, hug your neighbors, sing, cheer, and prost to happiness!
And it is glorious.
One morning at home when we had three girlfriends staying with us, my sweet hubby surprised us after our crepe breakfast with beautiful handmade flower crowns! When he pulled them out of a bag we all screamed with excitement like little girls and went crazy, it was the funniest thing!!! 🙂 Props to hubby for literally making my year, we felt like beautiful fest princesses all day!

After you’ve had your fun in the tents and a little liquid courage, ride those crazy rides you’ve been eyeing! They are so. much. fun!

When
The Fruehlingsfest is every spring, around April 21 to May 13. Volksfest, the larger version of Fruehlingsfest, is every fall from approximately September 28 – October 14. Exact dates will shift each year so make sure to check for certain!
Where
Stuttgart!!! No need to train to Munich when this event is in our backyard (lucky us)!
Get There
S1, S2, or S3 trains to Bad Cannstatt, or take the U1, U2, or U11 to Mercedesstrasse.
