My House Plants and a Peek into our Stuttgart Home

Since purchasing our first home in April (spoiler: it’s in Charleston SC but we still live in Stuttgart Germany), I have become particularly obsessed interested in home interiors.  Both my husband and I have been renting our entire adult lives and I am ready to finally make a space mine.  This past spring while we were under contract for our forever home, we put a hold on our frequent travel and I realized I needed something to take up my mind space: no more planning and booking trips in my free time, homegirl needed something to do. Cue a great hobby […]

Expat Life: the Haircut

If you’ve ever lived in a foreign country, you quickly realize that simple things, such as picking up a few items at the grocery store or getting a dress taken in, are not so simple in a foreign language.  Grocery shopping when I first moved to Germany always included my Google translate app in my hand, and trips to the seamstress or tailor included practicing uncommon technical seamstress phrases at home beforehand. It’s not by coincidence that I’ve let my hair grow much longer in Germany than I would have ever let it in the states – it’s not that […]

Scenes from the Stuttgart Christmas Market

The Christmas markets have been in full swing here in Germany, and I wanted to capture and share the happiness the markets create.  Twinkling lights, cold nights, warm glühwein, friends old and new catching up, laughter, and cheer.  This is what I think of when I think of the Weihnachtsmarkt. The Stuttgart Marktplatz, Schillerplatz, Schlossplatz and more are lined with wooden huts topped with evergreen branches and twinkling lights.  Each hut sells something unique, from hats and warm socks, to wooden nutcrackers, Christmas ornaments, candles, or even kitchenware. It’s fun to browse the stands, shopping for your loved ones Next […]

Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest

This post is quite late (hello Summer!!) but I wanted to tell you about the Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest since we had the BEST time with so many best friends visiting! The Frühlingsfest, or Spring Festival in English, runs for 3 straight weeks, mid April to mid May every year and it’s the sister event to the Volksfest in the fall.  We were so lucky to have a ton of friends visit us from the states this year, all during the fest season so we spent many weekends soaking up the German festival and sharing it with them! If you haven’t been […]

Mercedes Cup Stuttgart

Sports fans in Stuttgart are very happy this week between the Mercedes Cup tennis tournament and the World Cup kickoff, there’s a lot to watch and a lot of excitement!  Last weekend we decided to check out the Mercedes Cup and made a ‘day-date’ out of it! The Mercedes Cup is an ATP World Tour tennis tournament on grass courts.  The tournament is sponsored by Mercedes and the winner of the tournament gets prize money and a new car!  We hadn’t been before and wanted to check it out since it’s local and the tournament brings some big names to Stuttgart […]

Stuttgart Spotlight: Schlossgarten

|Location: Stuttgart Germany| If you live in a city you’re likely well aware of how important city parks are.  A great park is essential to making a good city great and Stuttgart delivers big with the Schlossgarten.  It is massive and one of my favorite parts of the city.  Going for a run through the beautiful Schlossgarten is very therapeutic for me so I wanted to highlight it in case you’re not aware of it! The Schlossgarten is very accessible and begins right behind the Schlossplatz.  Tuck behind the Schloss to head to the Opera house and you’re at the […]

Twenty Eighteen

Happy New Year to you and yours!  I hope you were able to enjoy the holidays and ring in 2018 with full hearts and lots of cheer. Have you ever used a focus word for the new year?  I like the idea better than resolutions, which always seem to fade away after a month.  A focus word sums up what you want for the new year, the next chapter in your life.  What is the big, important idea you want to ring through in 2018?  For me, it was so obvious what mine should be after we flew back to […]
