My Favorite Wineries in the Piemonte

Hey friends!  Last weekend Dave and I headed south to the Piemonte, our favorite wine region in the world!!!  It’s home to Barolo and Barbaresco wines as well as Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, and more.  If you don’t know about this region yet, I’ve explained it all in detail here.  Check that post out first so you can learn about it!

We’ve made the trip each and every fall since we moved here in 2015.  The first year we went with just the two of us, and loved it so much we’ve brought friends with us for the last three years.  This time we wanted a chill, relaxed vacation just the two of us and we had exactly that.  It was so refreshing and recharging!

While I highly recommend hiring a wine tour guide like our favorites Robert and Leslie of Travel Langhe so you know the ins and outs of the region, we’ve done so the past four years and finally ventured out on our own this trip.

If you plan to visit any wineries on your own, you need to make sure you email the wineries before hand to schedule an appointment.  These are family run wineries so making an appointment is paramount.

Without further ado, here’s my favorites!

In the Barbaresco Region

Nada Giuseppe: Located in Treiso, Barbaresco, I think these are my most favorite wines!  This is a family run winery with a small team of father, sister, and brother, and they couldn’t be nicer.  They also make a Nebbiolo Bio (organic), which is very rare for the region – in fact, they are the only winery in Barbaresco to make a Bio wine!

Negro Giuseppe: A classic Barbaresco located just north of Neive.  We ended up getting Barbera, Nebbilo, and Barbaresco from here.

Produttori del Barbaresco: This is actually a wine commune for smaller vintners within the Barbaresco DOCG region to bring their harvested grapes for a product of Barbaresco.  The wines are always fabulous and their tasting room is relaxed and nice.  It’s located right in Barbaresco town next to the torre or tower.  A great stop-in!

Masseria: Located on the inner edge of the Barbaresco region, this very small winery is so small they don’t have a website, but we found out about it after having a bottle at lunch one day.  They makes some stand-out wines.  Barbarescos are known for their extremely fragrant nose and I could drink this all day long.

Cantina del Glicini: Walkable from Neive town, this small winery offers excellent Barbarescos.  The tasting room is just off of the cellar and is nice and cozy.

Ca’ del Baio: They offer a great showing of their wines, and their tasting room is complete with a fireplace which was a treat. 🙂  Located in Treiso.

In the Barolo Region

Massolino: Massolino has an excellent showing and location, and their Barolo wines are top notch.  We always love going to their winery!

Stra: This winery also has apartments on-site, and they are the friendliest wine makers!  They make excellent Barolos and we love visiting them as well!
