The Christmas markets have been in full swing here in Germany, and I wanted to capture and share the happiness the markets create. Twinkling lights, cold nights, warm glühwein, friends old and new catching up, laughter, and cheer. This is what I think of when I think of the Weihnachtsmarkt.
The Stuttgart Marktplatz, Schillerplatz, Schlossplatz and more are lined with wooden huts topped with evergreen branches and twinkling lights. Each hut sells something unique, from hats and warm socks, to wooden nutcrackers, Christmas ornaments, candles, or even kitchenware.
It’s fun to browse the stands, shopping for your loved ones
Next meet up with friends, sharing stories and laughs over some mulled wine or glühwein, a warm reprieve from the cold temperatures.
Every Christmas Market has their own unique cups, which you can choose to return and get your deposit back, or keep as a souvenir. I may be biased, but my favorite cups are the traditional Stuttgart ones! There are also newer, modern Stuttgart cups that are popular now.
The markets are a perfect time for out-of-town visitors too, like my wonderful parents who flew all the way from the US to catch some of this Christmas magic in the city!
The market huts in Stuttgart are decked out with Christmas decor, be it gingerbread men, angels playing trumpets, or Santa boasting how good the warm Bratwurst and Glühwein!
Speaking of food and drinks, you won’t go hungry at the Stuttgart Christmas Market. There’s plenty of food stands selling wurst, crepes, or my favorite, schupfnudeln.
If you’re looking for looking for something sweeter, there’s candied nuts, chocolate covered fruits, and of course the gingerbread hearts to give your shatzi, or sweetheart.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these details from the Stuttgart Christmas Market! Has it inspired you to visit? What are your favorite Christmas Markets? I’d love to hear!
